PEI-LUN TSAI CLARINETIST

Dr. Pei-Lun Tsai is a versatile Taiwanese clarinetist based in Tokyo, performing internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator. She has appeared throughout Asia, North America, and Europe, with performances in the United States, Canada, China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and across Europe.

In 2025, Dr. Tsai collaborated with IRCAM (France) at the C-LAB Sound Art Festival(Taiwan), performing Pierre Boulez's Dialogue de l'ombre double, and was featured as a soloist in the Boulez Project Solo Series with a performance of Domaines. In 2026, she served on the Artistic Leadership Team of ClarinetFest® 2026.

From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Tsai was an Artist-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada). She has been invited to perform at numerous international festivals, including the ACL Korea International Conference and Festival, Malaysian Contemporary Music Festival (SMCC), ASEAN Nanning Music Festival, Thailand International Composition Festival (TICF), Seoul International Computer Music Festival, ICA ClarinetFest®, SIPFest (Indonesia), and the Weiwuying International Festival of Arts (Taiwan). She has also presented guest lectures at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Dr. Tsai earned degrees from the Taipei National University of the Arts and Northwestern University before completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree on a full scholarship at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Her principal teachers include Steve Cohen, Jane Carl, William Chen, Pei-Yun Lin, and Wei-Te Sung. She has also worked with distinguished artists including Lawrie Bloom, Anthony McGill, Suzanne Stephens (Karlheinz Stockhausen Foundation for Music), and Ernesto Molinari.
Currently, Dr. Tsai is a member of the International Clarinet Association (ICA) New Music Committee. She teaches at several international and Japanese schools in Tokyo, performs with the Euodia Orchestra, and regularly serves as an adjudicator for music competitions throughout Japan.
